'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2' Review (Rewatch - 27/5/2019)

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Guardians 2 really does get better every time I rewatch it. Exceptional character development, great villain and probably one of the best looking MCU

films too. However I still have that same problem with it from when I watched it the first time. For me there needed to be something else in between the discovery of his father and the eventual betrayal, because for me the betrayal was predictable even though I still think ego was a good villain and the reasoning for the betrayal was well thought out and worked. I just think him and peter maybe could’ve gone off on an onscreen adventure together which showed them bonding which then could’ve made the betrayal even more impactful. Although I suppose the point was to focus on the relationship with his mother, rather than ego and Peter, and yes that reveal is definitely enough of a reason for him to go crazy and still works everytime I watch that scene. I just think their could’ve been something in between that could build to that point. That is literally my only problem with the film ( and killing Yondu obviously but that’s not a story problem just character preference aha). If I didn’t still have this problem with it then by this point it would definitely be as highly rated as endgame for me, it’s just that one thing that holds it back.

8/10
